Hi all,

Spring is here! No, it’s not. Think again. Anyway, I just wasted two hours viewing YouTube videos; it’s amazing how one can get sucked in, even with the best of attentions. I am building a fiberglass tank for our new greenhouse and needed to see how best to construct the corners so a Google search led me to a video on how some redneck was constructing his own home aquarium; very informative.  I think the aquarium was going into the forward end of his trailer. Anyhow, you know how when the YouTube video ends similar related videos are listed on the right. So there it was, on the top of that list, how Obama was going to start WWIII. Wanting to know what this had to do with fiberglass, I opened that video. I had to watch to the end to see what nut job put that together; turned out to be some Frenchy named LaRouche. So I had to Google his name, to find the fiberglass connection, and that opened up a whole new universe of conspiracy, and understanding history as a struggle between Platonism and Aristotelianism. BTW, you can join the LaRouche Movement; he has similar membership levels as the farm but different names ($100 you’re a Lunatic, $500 you’re a Conspiracy Theorist). I didn’t make any progress on my tank but am re-thinking the names of our membership levels.

Speaking of membership; we really really need people to join now. As you can see I have been wasting a lot of time on the computer so I need to hire people to do real work (that which requires gloves) and they want to get paid. There are things breaking down everywhere. I can now fix them with fiberglass, instead of duct tape, but the cost is higher. Then there is Tank, my nemesis (the Ram; not the equally perplexing fiberglass tank). I have been watching the movie Jurassic Park to get pointers on how to build his new enclosure. Steel; not fiberglass. Lots of YouTube welding videos to view.

We also need folks to join the CSA program. I got the new guy coming up from New York and he has all sorts of ideas which I am sure will have associated costs. Then I probably will have to make bail for Allison in Australia before the year is out; another cost, though predictable. It’s tough running a farm.

Stan came up with a good idea; we are going to have a CSA Open House on Saturday, March 8, from 9 to noon. Anyone who has already joined the CSA, or joins up on that day, will get a bunch of vegetable to take home. We have some fantastic greens, turnips, and carrots though nothing is guaranteed. You will at least get a bag of salad mix, some eggs, and a cup of tea or coffee (the coffee is either Fair Trade or Free Range; I forget which). Come join and sit around and read the newspaper, watch YouTube, fiberglass, whatever.

For those that have joined the farm and already, my heartfelt thanks. I hope the rest of you join soon and also ask your neighbors and relatives to join as well. This year has many challenges that may be the final straw for local farms. A short list includes FDA food safety rules, new nutrient control rules, minimum wage increases, lack of immigration reform, potential nuclear power plant explosions, and medical marijuana (I have to treat my anxiety). The sad part is the farm won’t be missed until it’s gone. Though I am sure there will be a lot of good videos remembering the good times posted on YouTube. Help!
